Requirements
What the 462 asks of you.
Dependent children cannot accompany you on this visa. Your first application must be lodged from outside Australia, and travel should wait until the grant is in writing.
An eligible passport
Held by nationals of participating countries, including the United States, China and Vietnam. Annual caps limit first-visa grants for some countries, so timing within the program year can matter.
Your country's specific requirements
Depending on your passport, you may also need a set level of education, English evidence, or a supporting letter from your home government. We confirm exactly what your country requires before anything is prepared.
Work and study within the limits
Aged 18 to 30 inclusive at application, applying from outside Australia for your first visa. Work any job, anywhere, capped at six months per employer unless an exemption applies, and study for no more than four months.
Second and third years
Three months of specified work, evidenced across at least 88 days on your first visa, unlocks a second year. Six further months on the second visa can unlock a third. The qualifying industries and regions differ from the 417.
